✨Living alone: some helpful and cheap safety tips. ✨

(a thread)
Go to your local hardware store and buy several 1/2 inch wooden dowels. Cut them to fit on the inside track of your windows and sliding glass door.

Even if your window is unlocked, it will get stuck on the dowel
Change out the screws in the door jam portion of your deadbolt.

They're usually installed with short screws, using 1 1/2 inch screws can prevent someone from forcing the door open.
A security door guard lock, like in hotels, is a cheap way to add protection to your door
You can buy and put up security alarm signs. Even if you don't own the security system the threat alone can deter someone.
Remove, or request the removal of shrubbery outside your door and windows. While it looks nice it's the perfect place for someone to hide.

(I had my apartment rip mine out after I realized someone had been hiding behind it trying to light it on fire)
Get just a few smart bulbs that can be controlled by an app. If you're out of town you can turn lights on and off, simulating someone being home.
Living alone can be scary sometimes, but honesty such small changes can give you peace of mind. đź’›
