This Apple vs Fortnite situation may start the uprising of mobile game developers using Epic’s loophole to avoid giving Apple a percentage of a purchase but if Epic win, it will kill the mobile game industry. Besides who is still playing playing Fortnite in 2020. The game is dead
I will admit the parody of an old macintosh ad was clever of Epic but Futurama beat you to it.
Back to the topic. Epic would have signed a Terms and Conditions contract with Apple before putting Fortnite on the App Store. I don’t have a game on the App Store so I don’t know what Apple’s rules are on micro-transactions. Whoever wins the lawsuit, both companies will suffer.
If Epic win, Android and maybe other platforms will be next. If Apple win, Epic will lose the full amount of any V-Bucks purchase and be forced to send a percentage of a purchase to Apple and other online game store owners
For all the 12 year olds trying to defend Fortnite, think of this. Epic Games have their own store. For example Rockstar decide to change the way to purchase Shark cards in GTA. My guess is Epic have a similar T&C to Apple. What would Epic do?
Sorry for prolonging this thread so much but I genuinely believe Epic Games have fucked up. Every product in the UK (as far as I know) is subject to VAT which is similar to Apple’s 30% revenue thing. 30% sounds way too much but the developer still keeps most of the revenue.
This is all Epic Games being greedy which also explains why they are milking the shit out of Fortnite. Don’t call me a hypocrite because I play GTA which has also been milked dry but GTA keep adding things which keep it interesting. GTA have opened up areas that were inaccessible
