Something I find interesting is the number of Liverpool fans that are convinced we’re going to fall apart after Klopp leaves.

I genuinely wonder how many of them were around at the end of 2014-15. I remember very few fans talking about Klopp — much less thinking we’d sign him.
Klopp is an amazing manager. I make no secret of the fact that I think he’s the best manager in club football today. I wonder, however, how many of the fans who claim he’s one in a million, and the only reason the club is successful under his model, thought of him that way then.
I see parallels between how these fans see Klopp and how they see players — those we got and those they wish we’d get. They weren’t impressed with Firmino, Mané, or Salah. Many of them are arguing that Havertz or Sancho are one-time opportunities. They did the same with Mbappé.
The real issue, I think, is that these fans believe that us getting Klopp came down to luck. They’re convinced the owners’ strategy comes down to being cheap. They don’t believe the intent is to increase spending by increasing revenue, because they only recognize transfers.
Because the standard these fans associate with big clubs is big money signings, nothing good is attributed to the plan. We’re “lucky” Klopp came to us, we’re “lucky” Edwards scouted the players, we’re “lucky” Klopp made them all so good, and that “luck” can’t continue past 2024.
The reality is this. Liverpool are a special club with a special history and culture, and a global support. This attracted Klopp. He has used our increased revenues to get top players and — more importantly — keep them. By 2024, we’ll be even richer and even more competitive.
Assuming we don’t promote from within, these factors will attract our next manager. This person will likewise be someone innovative, exciting, not motivated to win by spending, and — like Klopp — someone the negative part of our support didn’t think of (or didn’t think we’d get).
At that point, those same fans — who never really got the “doubter to believer” message, and never figured out what “You’ll Never Walk Alone” really was about — will do the same thing they’ve done under Klopp. They’ll celebrate wins, abuse players, and whine about transfers.
They’ll the rest of us shills, bootlickers, fans with a small club mentality, responsible for 1991-2019, and so on.

We’ll just have to console ourselves with supporting the best club in the world, I guess.
