It’s cute that you all think “if there were women on this #abed curriculum panel, it would be so much better”

But that’s not how institutions and systems of power work. Brown, black and female faces in high places don’t mean shit if panel is designed to damage public education
If there were women on this panel, they would have been most likely white and UCP donors.

It wouldn’t have made a difference. You just would have had a white woman telling us that teaching consent in school is “political bias” #ableg #abpoli
Representation for the sake of representation is harmful.

Demand Better. Demand a better curriculum. Focus on the actual real issue.
I hear this all the time but...

“We would like to be oppressed by gender diverse panel” isn’t really my cup of tea.

We can stop pretending that these panels have agency of their own; instead, they serve as a tool to legitimatize the actions of the UCP #abed #abpoli #ableg https://twitter.com/vettergreenart/status/1294041128912601089
When we demand women and BIPOC folks to be represented in positions of power, let’s also demand that those positions value us. If not, you are just demanding our labor while subjecting us to violence.
I am frankly tired of white feminists believing women and BIPOC folks will magically solve our problems.

Yes we are qualified. Yes we are talented. Yes we bring important diverse perspectives but UCP panels don’t provide space for that. They are not meant to and they never will
So focus on the real issue: curriculum design

Because it will once again be BIPOC folks who won’t see themselves represented in the classroom and Indigenious kids will continue to hear how great the “explorers” were
