Just got off the Yes on 22 call that was paid for by Uber, Lyft & Doordash to discuss:

"How the recent court ruling will threaten your independent contractor status."

And, wow, they are def. taking plays out of the Trump rally handbook: all theatrics, threats & no substance.
No one from the companies spoke.

Instead, a campaign spokesperson read from a script:

"Politicians doing the bidding of special interest groups are making our worst fears become reality."
Let us reiterate: Uber didn’t even have the courage to look drivers in the face while lying to them about Prop. 22.

WE COULD HEAR LITERALLY HEAR THE SPOKESPERSON’S SCRIPT PAGES TURNING!
According to the Prop. 22 campaign, workers receiving the employee status & benefits they are LEGALLY OWED should be our worst fear. 😱

That’s:
✔️ PPE
✔️ Paid sick leave
✔️ Unemployment insurance
✔️ Disability insurance
✔️ Overtime pay
✔️ Pay for ALL time working
The two drivers who did speak were BOTH retirees — one a former state employee — are likely already receiving benefits from the state. Their needs don’t align with all other drivers.

The two spoke at length about the importance of driver “flexibility.”
We’re also curious to know why @Uber chose their driver spokespeople.

Are their needs representative of the majority base of drivers — POC & immigrants?
Let us rebut Uber’s misinformation:

For 1,005th time, NOTHING in CA or US labor law/ regulations or the recent court ruling threatens driver flexibility. https://twitter.com/TerriGerstein/status/1292785081170485249?s=20
The campaign claims that they will have to shut down the apps if their appeal isn't accepted.

They say, "At a time when drivers need money, the fact that politicians keep pushing for employee status is just unfair.”

This is manipulative and misleading.
Drivers are forced to get behind the wheel during a deadly pandemic OR taking an unpaid sick day & miss rent because of Uber’s actions.

Existing laws — that these companies refuse to follow — protect workers: http://laborcenter.berkeley.edu/the-uber-lyft-ballot-initiative-guarantees-only-5-64-an-hour/
Much like today’s call, Prop 22 is all smoke and mirrors.

It provided nothing of real substance or benefit to drivers.

We're outraged & we’re taking action.

We’ve got an organizing call right now w. workers at the helm, planning our next moves b/c we MUST defeat Prop22.

The law is on our side. Voters will be too.

Join us & commit to vote NO on Prop22.
