Not many know this, but in 2004 I was among a cadre of digital columnists who successfully pushed Stephanie Tubbs-Jones and Barbara Boxer to challenge Ohio's presidential electors. I'll say now that I think—before January—we'll be talking about the 2004 "Boxer Rebellion" a *lot*.
If Trump's actions result in the invalidation of millions of legitimate ballots, several states could see their elector slates challenged—and we may even see the GOP challenge some *blue-state* slates to push each candidate's EV total under 270, sending the election to the House.
You better believe that Democratic Party attorneys are *right now* cataloging every public statement Trump is making about trying to steal the election through the decimation of the USPS—as it's all *key evidence* in a December Supreme Court case that almost feels inevitable now.
The goal of Republicans may well be to so invalidate so many slates of electors that the election is thrown to the House—where the vote is by state delegation and the Republican candidate would win. I don't think people appreciate how ugly this is all about to get—and is already.
Americans should treat the 2020 election as happening *right now*. Not like it's a future event—but like it's a *present* event. Trump's statements today are evidence in the election; the disappearance of USPS equipment is evidence in the election; the election's happening *now*.
There is ample reason to treat the election as though it's *already* contested—as Trump's effort to invalidate the election by making *both* sides mistrust *any* result is well underway. It's in that chaos of disinformation, litigation, and dirty tricks that he thinks he can win.
The Democratic Party should be in court *yesterday*—should be in Congress holding new impeachment inquiry hearings *yesterday*—as this election isn't going to be stolen in November. It's being stolen right now. Today. As I'm writing this. There is literally *no time left* to act.
