Among the many things covered in my long exit interview yesterday, I told my library director that he wasn't being sensitive to the stress/challenges faced by his staff during the pandemic. He gave me a skeptical look and asked me "What do you all have to be stressed about???"
I saw RED. It was a testament to my self-control that he is still walking freely on God's own Earth. I listed the many things we had to be stressed about and reminded him that his failure to accommodate us was the most immediate reason (among others) for my departure.
If nearby unis are willing to pay us more to work from home 100% and you're paying us less to risk our lives daily, I can guarantee he is going to continue to hemorrhage staff due to his lack of empathy. 3 colleagues already approached me to ask if my new employer was hiring more
There are too many library leaders who have none of the necessary skills required to lead a library with so many souls subject to the harmful consequences of their iniquities. If you treat people like they're disposable, they will leave the first chance they get.
