Normally I& #39;m not one to talk about personal things on here, but I figured this is something worth sharing.
One year ago today, my wife and I were in our 20-week checkup, and received news that changed what we thought was going to take place as we prepared for our first child.

During the ultra-sound, the tech ended it very quickly, and walked out of the room. She came back with a high-risk doctor to tell us a bunch of percentages on survival rates of the baby, as well as what was going to happen in the next 4 hours.
Around this exact time (1pm) Bethany was wheeled out of surgery after they basically put in a stitch to keep the baby inside. A friend came to have lunch with me and calm me down while I tried to make sense of what was going on. I asked him "Am I even going to get to be a dad?"
There is plenty that occurred over the next few days. It was, "can we make it to 24 weeks" After that to 25, 26 and so on. Luckily we were able to get to 28 without more problems. At that point, we spent the next 8 weeks going back and forth to the hospital, day after day.
Bethany was at KU for three weeks until they did an emergency c-section. Then 5 weeks of having a baby in the NICU.
Of course, now, our daughter is insanely adorable, and constantly the best part of our day. It& #39;s almost hard to imagine everything we& #39;ve gone through this year.

There are two points to me saying all of this:
1) There are countless people on this platform, and in our lives that we could not have gone through this year without. So those of you who prayed, or sent well wishes or helped financially, I cannot express our gratitude enough.

2) A lot of us have been living in a constant state of crisis. Jobs lost, physical and mental health seems to be a giant question mark. On top of it, the physical distance has lead to true "social distance."
I encourage those who are at the crossroads of mental and emotional burnout to talk. Talk to someone. Talk to me.
I was struggling in April and May. It was the closest to depressed and burnt out. It took me talking to people and cultivating a support system to get right.

Please talk to someone if you find yourself there. The only way we can get through struggles is with people walking with you, and in the trenches fighting for you. So a special thank you to those that were, and an encouragement to seek that, or be that for those who need it
