/I think AOC is gifted when it comes messaging. Is she our most effective Democratic legislator? No. The fact that the DNC& #39;s putting her on the stage over other legislators (even if for a minute) speaks volumes of AOC& #39;s work to bring attention to Civics, and that& #39;s no easy feat. https://twitter.com/ambertamblyn/status/1293766423978954755">https://twitter.com/ambertamb...
/I& #39;m defining Legislator as a person who makes laws. AOC has yet to have a bill pass (even out of committee). I know that& #39;s incredibly difficult given the hyperpartisan climate but legislators like Lauren Underwood & Katie Porter have. Why aren& #39;t they speaking at the Convention?
/As a nation we need a better understanding of Civics, it& #39;s why we& #39;re in the spot we& #39;re in now. Many don& #39;t connect how policy affects them day-to-day; the media has fashioned reps into stars instead of them cultivating policies that represent our best interests or harm us.
/I& #39;ve been education folks on Civics for free a LONG time (since I was 16). Believe me when I say I know its a challenged to get people interested in understanding what harms them. That is why I have no shade towards AOC speaking, its a gift to get people interested in Civics.
/But I want people (&the media) to move beyond "interest" (like showing up to rallies but then not voting). I really was folx to understand AND be invested in how policy dictates every moment in their lives and I want legislators like Underwood to be held in even higher esteem.
