what is queer fetishization and where does it come from? familiarize yourself with this - you might be perpetuating it without even realizing
shipping versus activism; supporting queer ships in fandom spaces does not exempt you from homophobia. in fact, it sometimes makes you complicit in the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes
how to recognize fetishization in your fandom and within your own actions, and how to actively avoid it
perhaps the most important point I can make pertains to the excessive top/bottom discourse in discussing queer pairings. in short, DON’T DO IT
infantilization can be best characterized by the age-old tumblr phrase “smol cinnamon roll.” it perpetuates the ally-hero complex, and can be rooted in overt racism and homophobia
so, how can you ship queer pairings without fetishizing them? spoiler: it’s entirely possible
racial fetishization is especially prominent in anime/kpop fandoms. learn about it and STOP doing it!
final reminder: listen to other people in the fandom! do not silence the voices of marginalized people who are oppressed by queer and racial fetishization!
