Thank you to everyone from HK (?) who just followed me. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🙏🏻" title="Folded hands (heller Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Folded hands (heller Hautton)"> Quick self-introduction: I& #39;m a queer/feminist studies scholar specializing in Japanese women writers & girls& #39; culture but with broader interests in queer Asian studies and AsAm studies/diasporic Asian issues. 1/8
I tweet mostly in English. I& #39;m not hugely active. I like sharing info on literature & translation, esp. anything queer/feminist. Occasionally I retweet/translate important issues from Jp Twitter. I& #39;m Taiwanese American & have spent my life shuttling betw. US, Taiwan, & Japan. 2/8
I moved from Tokyo three weeks ago after doing a postdoc at Waseda; starting this fall, I& #39;m an assistant prof in Gender Studies at HKU. I& #39;m very happy to be teaching again. I& #39;m not the perfect teacher but get a lot out of it. I& #39;m sure I& #39;ll learn a lot from my students here. 3/8
You can find me as grace_no_dash on Instagram, where I post meandering things about queer feminist Asian diasporic stuff w/boring everyday pictures. I am very fond of cats. I eat a lot of sweets (cakes, desserts). I can be loud; other academics have called me "feisty." https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤷🏻‍♀️" title="Achselzuckende Frau (heller Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Achselzuckende Frau (heller Hautton)"> 4/8
If you want to get to know me better, I did this lecture in June (Eng; Jp subs on YouTube). I introduced my work; talked frankly about being queer, female, & Asian in the academy in the US & Japan; & reflected on my queer/feminist goals as a scholar. 5/8 https://twitter.com/graceting/status/1274933806193979392?s=20">https://twitter.com/graceting...
You can also read what I wrote about building queer/feminist solidarity in the context of Japanese studies and its problems of race & gender. This piece & the lecture do not count as work that will help me keep my job, but I do not regret writing them. 6/8 https://twitter.com/icu_cgs/status/1255695314050146304?s=20">https://twitter.com/icu_cgs/s...
For more on Japanese women writers (my main research area), this is the only hot take I ever wrote. I usually avoid strong expression of opinions on Twitter, but 2020 was making me cranky. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤷🏻‍♀️" title="Achselzuckende Frau (heller Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Achselzuckende Frau (heller Hautton)"> Thanks to the amazing @mieko_kawakami for not being annoyed! 7/8 https://twitter.com/graceting/status/1250025223174254594?s=20">https://twitter.com/graceting...
I& #39;ll do my best to keep up with everyone I just followed but might disappear sometimes because Twitter is just too much for me! https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😬" title="Grimasse schneidendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Grimasse schneidendes Gesicht"> Apologies in advance, & thanks if you read this thread to the end! It is a strange, strange feeling to finally be in HK, but I& #39;m glad to be here. 8/8
