Gatekeepers aren’t always white & male. If my goal was to keep a cis white male club exclusive, I’d recruit only trans, POC & women to gatekeep, because it’s still hard for us to accuse a member of another marginalized group of discrimination. We refuse to see it as systemic.

But if we don’t start holding everybody who participates in systemic discrimination and oppression accountable, we won’t make progress.

I get the joy people feel when a member of a marginalized group makes it...but you’re in denial if you think they will make changes. They didn’t get in because the club wanted a rebel rouser member, they got in because they signaled they’re willing to uphold the system.
