1/6 There's two types of comments in this HUGE thread:

- those who WANT #UBI so they can have life stability
- those who HAVE stability and DON'T want it for others

Why do some people OPPOSE having a #BetterFuture for everyone? Isn't LESS stress about food & shelter seem sane? https://twitter.com/globalnews/status/1293579028771876864
2/6 It's got to do with #SocialJustice and #RacialJustice:

Those who HAVE stability are benefiting from the current capitalist system, which REQUIRES large numbers of low-paid workers be kept scrambling for FEW resources...😧

While the FEW at the top end get most of the rest.🤨
3/6 "The rich get richer" applies here, folks. 🤑

Those who see themselves as "self-made" (mostly men) give no thought to the SYSTEM enabling their rise.

They see anyone who's NOT achieved life stability as "lazy" and often look down at people who are poor.

That's not right.😠
4/6 Here's a look at Universal Basic Income in Canada, its history and what it would take to implement.

Such a safety net would make true #SystemChange a real possibility:

Getting rid of the "people won't WANT to work" bias is KEY to public acceptance.
5/6 More about what exactly #UBI is, and ISN'T:

My own thread from June 2020 with even more details:

Switching over to UBI would remove many inconsistencies in today's #socialservices to BENEFIT a country AND society as a whole.
6/6 In summary, #UBI is all about stability, as I've said.

Your food, shelter and basic needs are met, no matter what may happen (sickness. job loss, etc). You can work as much as you want, or if you can't, you don't starve (or die).

It's a BIG step up for many that's needed.✅
