I’ve been on Clubhouse for the past few weeks, which (unsurprisingly) seems to have number of libertarians on it.

Since there’s a special flavor of “objectivity as performance art” on CH, too often I find myself in conversations where they get to suck up all the air in the room.
As a result, I’ve been thinking a bit about what irritates me about the ideology.

Based on what I’ve encountered, I think that it’s a lack of self-awareness, and little to no acknowledgement of some key truths.
On self-awareness: the ideas lack empathy and refuse to engage with social impact.

We are all animals. If an idea is not engaging with emotions and what makes us human, then it’s not realistic. And believing in it kind of makes you an asshole. 🤷🏾‍♀️
On acknowledgement: it’s an ideology defined by individualism.

It requires an (intentional or unintentional) ignorance of the fact that surviving in the current day without a reliance on others is virtually impossible.

Which again, kind of makes you an asshole. 🤷🏾‍♀️
I think the thing that really has me stumped though, is Black libertarians.

Are these Black folks who are truly “free,” because they have never had to encounter the hardships that come with being Black and can adopt this? Or are they just in denial?

I have so many questions.
