Has Twitter made your life better?
My answer: Sorta. I've made many great friends on here. I'm even in an amazing relationship now and we currently live together. At the same time, there's a lot that I wish just didn't happen. Sometimes I have to take a deep breath before even opening the app.
I don't really like the more reactionary aspects of this site. There's definitely a push to build people up, but there's also a push to bring people down if you don't like them. Because it's a social media platform, people tend to forget we are speaking to actual people.
It can be really confusing for people who have different ideas of what social norms are, and the lack of an edit button and difficulty in creating informative threads leads to fragmented, often one-sided discussions.
So, it's difficult for me to say. I really like Twitter. I like the people I've met here, as well as the communities. Twitter has also been a bridge in helping me be more informed on certain issues, but it also sometimes makes me feel very inadequate.
If you aren't well versed at socializing, people will just push you away from certain communities. Even now, I don't feel like I have a community to belong in because no one really wants me there. So, I quickly felt burnt out.
Twitter is great, but I'd really caution people. It can really hurt your self esteem if you aren't careful. Honestly, even now I sometimes question my self worth and whether I'm like my more successful mutuals. It's difficult when it's magnified.
