This false narrative has gone on long enough. The JLP was formed to elevate the voice of the working class Jamaican as the political arm of the BITU. The 1st time working class Jamaicans were able to vote in 1944, they voted JLP & kept the JLP in office for over a decade. https://twitter.com/dwightobernard/status/1293674665345519617">https://twitter.com/dwightobe...
Bustamantee, founder of the party stated that the JLP is “aimed at lifting the small man, for his time has come to have better consideration and a better life.” He stated tht he was committed to ensuring that working class Jamaicans “are paid fairly for a fair day’s work”.
To advance working class development, btwn 1944-55 Bustamantee built a total of 88 schools to make space for 99,000 working class children who were growing up in illiteracy and activated land settlement programmes to make land available to small farmers.
Working class development was one of the cornerstones on which the JLP was built, a principle that guides the party to this day. So to correct your tweet: the JLP is focused on elevating the underprivileged into the class of the “well to do”. #GetTheFacts
