Traveling abroad opened my eyes to how many freedoms I take for granted. From opening a business, to voting, to protesting, to speaking out against the government to having food in every grocery store and clean water. I just really didn't know how spoiled and entitled I was.
A friend in another country said, "I applied to open a business. In a few years the government will let me know if I can." Another friend said, "Things have been a lot better since we got a new dictator. For the last three years, we've been allowed to travel outside our country."
Are there problems in America? Without a doubt, lots of them and significant ones worth lamenting, rebuilding and fixing. There's so much work to be done here. But travel really opened my eyes to why this country is worth fighting for together.
