THREAD: Ok, I am going to break my rule about never tweeting in anger, because I& #39;m so angry, and I just have to say this. I am horrified watching the A Level results scandal unfold. What scares me is the message that we& #39;re sending to a generation of school leavers: that you (1/5)
cannot exceed expectations based on who you are and where you come from; you cannot beat the odds; you cannot, through talent and hard work and your teachers’ support and belief, get a mark that surprises you and your teachers and your school. As someone who went to a (2/5)
state comprehensive(and I was very lucky, it was a wonderful school), I hate that we’re telling these school leavers that where you went to school will define your ability to succeed – because that is literally what is happening to them. Regardless of what happens with (3/5)
the appeals process (and I really, really hope it works), on this climactic, memorable day, I’m worried that the message will sink in. If you’re reading this and your results have been downgraded and this doesn’t reflect your own achievementsand what your teacher believes (4/5)
you capable of, please don’t let this message mar your pride in your achievements and your sense of possibility. And please appeal. (5/5)
