There’s a very interesting thread of connections the writers made between the Jungian concepts of persona and shadows and reflecting that figuratively in the existence of the TV world and midnight channel. The TV being a metaphor for false perceptions and surface level truths.

Fog being an analogy of things obscuring truth. The true ending only occurring when you don’t fall prey to the fog blinding you and distracting with events. The path to the truth is the only way to make everyone happy, and that truth is only arrived at with social links.
