Since the #COVID19 lockdown has been imposed in March this year, education journalists are attending at least two calls a day from aggrieved parents. Private schools and parents are at loggerheads over fee payments (1/6)
Parents argue and demand a concession as they have faced job losses & salary cuts, operation costs are lower, duration of learning is reduced and they have had to invest in digital devices (2/6)
Schools argue that they are paying full salaries (definitely not true for all), costs are likely to increase when they re-open, rents and maintenance costs continue and limited reserves (3/6)
While schools have got some respite from courts, there has been little relief for parents. Some complain that children are barred from online classes for non-payment. Mails, calls to education department officials and local leaders yeilds no result (4/6)
Schools on the other hand claim that they are willing to make an exception if parents bring proof for loss of income but very few show up and moratoriums are being offered but parents adamant on a concession. Budget schools are struggling to make ends me (5/6)
The system is full of flaws, situation isn't ideal but that the 2 stakeholders aren't able to work together right now is worrying for the edu ecosystem in a country where people prefer private schools over govt ones cz the state of that is a Twitter thread for another day (6/6)
