Ofqual saying here that teachers tend to over-estimate the grades of disadvantaged students more than those in higher socio-economic groups... hence why the standardisation process brings down grades more frequently of those from more disadvantaged backgrounds 👇
Although on the whole, Ofqual says there is no evidence of "any systemic bias". And adds "changes in overall outcomes for students with different protected characteristics and from different socio-economic backgrounds are similar to changes seen between 2018 and 2019".
This does speak to the point made by England's Children's Commissioner today though that the process will inevitably exaggerate existing inequalities. More levelling down than levelling up.
Good thread here though on how the adjustments to the grades of disadvantaged students are not as stark as they were in Scotland... https://twitter.com/FactCheck/status/1293875348560642048
