panic attacks are an intense rush of fear but often can happen even when there is no threat present.
symptoms:
• intense fear
• a sense of doom
• sweating or chills
• pounding heart
• head & chest pain
• shaking
• difficulty breathing

triggers aren’t always easy to identify. sometimes the person who experiences one will know what triggered it, & others won’t. it doesn’t make any of them less valid.
often times people have described feeling like their were having a heart attack while having a panic attack.

knowing the early signs of a panic attack can really help someone:
• feeling of terror or dread
• hyperventilation or shortness of breath
• feelings of choking
• pounding heart
• dizziness & shaking

not everyone experiences panic attacks in the same way, so it’s best to ask what signs they they experience leading up to a panic attack.
for the person experiencing a panic attack, time can be warped so it may feel as though it is happening for much longer than it really is.
when to call for help:
• chest pain feels like squeezing (not stabbing) & moves to their arms or shoulders.
• symptoms persist for longer than 20 minutes & get worse, not better.
• shortness of breath doesn’t improve.
• pressure in chest lasts more than a minute or two.
