Earlier this week, we were delighted to announce the incredible Alex Winston as the inaugural representative of the Unserene commonwealth of Bugovia in @plopvision. For your consideration, here are some of her favourite tracks of our delegation!
One of the things that most got us enrapt with Alex Winston's artistry was her tendency to write songs from unusual perspectives, like this track off her first full-length album about malaise in a polygamist cult:
The song selected by Bugovia is in a similar outré vein, talking about a disturbed person falling in love with a painting on Elvis on velvet.
We can't count the number of times we've listened to the entirety of Alex' début album, "King Con". In many songs, there's an interesting combination of upbeat music with unforgettable hooks paired with rather melancholy lyrics, like in this cri de coeur:
Whilst Alex creates lush, multi-instrumental soundscapes, her songs also soar in stripped down situations, like this vulnerable and intimate acoustic take on 101 vultures:
Here in Bugovia, we also love the cinematic, thought-provoking and often unconventional videos that accompany her songs, like this one for the anthemic ''Careless''
We also love her writing style with a keen eye for interesting metaphors, like this song from last year comparing an unsatisfactory relationship to someone being merely a tourist.
