1) Their movement is in its death throes, with the #EHRC report out any day but the few pro-Corbyn Jews attacking non-Jewish anti racists as ‘philosemites’ & creepy for fighting against antisemitism in Labour are abhorrent.
2) The British Jewish community has tended to stay quiet about antisemitism. The belief was if we stay quiet, don’t kick up a fuss, maybe the racists will leave us alone. Too many Jews remained quiet while quietly making plans to leave if Corbyn was elected.
3) Our non Jewish allies, mostly appalled by what they saw within their local parties, spoke up because they are anti racists. They saw racism in their alleged ‘anti racist’ party and didn’t like it.
4) I’m not sure any of them envisaged it would be a bitter and dangerous 4 year fight. Normally if you point out racism, an organisation will apologise and pledge to do better. Not Labour. Things got worse and worse.
5) Jews still supporting Corbyn at the end were willing to overlook the rampant antisemitism he had encouraged. Perhaps it’s their shame which is making them attack the people who weren’t willing to overlook it.
