A quick Nerd thread....

There is indeed a very strong link between language and thought. The language you speak broadly affects or even determines the way you experience the world, from the way you perceive it, to the way to categorize it, to the way you cognize it. https://twitter.com/izesule/status/1293582259866537989
Nana here, was actually "thinking" in English, while her aunt wasnt.

This notion might strike many as crazy. You might think that how you perceive the world is simply a relationship between your sensory systems and objective reality.
Even if the way you think about the world is influenced by culture, personal experience, and upbringing, the grammar or vocabulary of the language you speak plays no role in shaping your experience.

You're wrong.
Some linguistic anthropologists and Behavioral Psychologists even argue that Language isnt merely how you give voice to what you experience, but a determining force on WHAT you experience.
The Japanese language, for instance, is a conformist language. What I mean is that people will tend to think alike when they speak Japanese. A natural tendency is to avoid confrontations when people speak Japanese. The language being highly deferential rather than confrontational
Whereas English is an antagonistic language. People will speak the way they feel, not necessarily as a matter of their individual character, but because the language has evolved to be highly descriptive, particularly when one is discussing thought. A trait which is highly valued.
The best writers in the English language are often those who are able to describe emotions amd situations in the most detailed manner. Conflicts then, may occur more frequently in an English speaking environment.
Im thinking of putting together a list of all the different ways ppl, especially in this generation, "Think" in English, but speak in "Hausa" or vice-versa, and how it effects thier behavior and choices. Whos interested 😁?
