I'm not the type to write notes without a pen and paper, so I would always try to bring at least a pen wherever I go just for any information. In this thread, I'm going to talk about the methods I used for my note-taking and why I use it.

I sometimes change my methods on a daily basis. I use the informal outline method and also the mapping method. Sometimes I combine them both.
The informal outline method is used whenever I want to make quick notes or when the lecturer is giving out the info at a really fast pace. My previous school encourages the students to bring a pen and notebook every time during our assembly, and I'm sure the habit stuck with me.
The informal outline is when you list out points or details like a list. A topic for that list, and the supporting details for it. It's one of the easiest methods and the most common as well.
The mapping method is used when I want to understand the lectures or what I've learnt. The arrows symbolise connection, and for me, if I want to understand something, certain topics must be related to one another so I can synthesise it properly.
It's like a mindmap, only an on the spot one. Using arrows to relate one detail with another, it's a method that helps students understand a certain topic easily.
I combine these both methods when I am doing self-revision, or during a lecture that of a topic I read before class. Despite my messy handwriting, I can understand what I've written, and that's a good thing.
