hi! due to the whole kyla situation i’d like to clear up a few things about the trap slur and why it’s inherently transphobic.

first off, trap is a term used in the anime community to describe a crossdresser, but it also has been used as a transphobic slur outside of anime. +
even though the anime term isn’t directly about trans people, the meaning of it is still harmful.

it’s using the word “trap” to describe “seeing someone who looks like one gender” and then being tricked when you “find out they’re not”.
this is harmful because even though in the anime context the character identifies with their birth sex, the term suggests that trans people are trying to “trick people into thinking that they’re the gender that they identify as, when they’re not”. which is obviously transphobic.
let me know if you think anything I said was confusing or inaccurate :) it’s kinda late so my brain isn’t functioning

ps. please don’t invalidate trans people’s opinions/feelings on this subject, you don’t get a say on this if you’re cis.
