However, what also creates fear & confusion with parents, is the deconstruction of their child’s body through the lens of queer theory & telling the parents that their child is neither male or female or a third, fourth or even fifth sex. https://twitter.com/xyUterusOwner/status/1293653514527309831
If activists really want to improve the wellbeing of children with variations in sex development, they need to start by campaigning for funding for a non-surgical pathway of support for parents that includes psychological & family support
They need to define what they mean by intersex surgeries & what surgeries they are talking about - & they need to campaign for any intervention to be evidence based & consider ‘do no harm’ & that irreversible interventions should always be a last resort & based on medical need
Without these clear definitions & aims, hospitals can claim that the surgeries they do perform have nothing to do with ‘intersex’ & things just carry on as always, but still without the funding for the psychosocial & family support that is needed
The best way to reduce stigma, is to give parents the support, language & narratives to talk openly with their children as well as the opportunity for peer support with other parents experiencing similar Issues - empowering parents to be the best advocates for their children.
But all of this needs funding - & it is where donating to @dsdfamilies could do so much for improving the wellbeing of people born with variations in sex development https://www.dsdfamilies.org/donate  #intersex #donate
