Why we should not hate WTF1 for what it does, what can we take from WTF1, and what can WTF1 do to make themselves more likeable to the community, a thread:
As some may believe, WTF1 is sometimes infamous for stealing content from others and claiming them as their own when a popular idea comes into many people's minds. Some recent examples incude some of @FormuIaUno's popular tweets.
This is however, I believe, a fallacy, where the most popular person of all gets targeted. Sometimes many people have the same idea and this is a reason why WTF1 gets hated on so much.
Furthermore, people have missed the "original" xMattyG, namely @MattyWTF1 back in 2015 and 2016, where he was a small youtuber and had many reckless but very likeable moves from time to time when he's doing videos with other youtubers. However, he's seemed to backed off since.
Here's where a large factor comes into play that is often ignored: "With great power comes great responsibility." Mr. Gallagher is no longer the person we used to know and now has a reputation to manage, where those moves he used to do would cost him dearly to the sponsors.
What can we look up to WTF1 then?
We should treat WTF1 as what they intend to do: attract new fans and let their voice be heard. Most of us here that has a proper F1 twitter account also have a much greater understanding to the new fans that came here just recently.
WTF1 is supposed to share information all around motorsport and let the new fans get into the world quickly. That is, however, often unseen because of how we treat them: an useless F1 account that steals content. They simply wanted to show the new fans about what's trending.
What can WTF1 do on their side? I am noot sure what impacts will this have on WTF1's side but a few things can definitely be done to make WTF1 also likeable to veterans and others that know motorsport better.
1: Give credit to people that had similar content if WTF1 did it later than them. Admit and acknowledge that you guys have the same idea is a good start to better interactions with the veteran community of Twitter. Plus, doing that suits WTF1's purpose even more. (not an example)
2: Show the other side of WTF1. People wanted the original xMattyG back, so why not? Maybe every once in a while Mr. Gallagher should do a stream where he becomes the xMattyG some wanted to see for so long, without PR worries. Us veterans would need to back this as well however.
3: Acknowledge the veterans. Some people that have better knowledge thinks that WTF1 is a disappointment because they are pretending to be full of knowledge when in reality things aren't exactly that way. WTF1 isn't doing that, they're just telling the new fans what is going on.
4. Make sure the barrier is clear to the veterans. Sometimes because of Sponsors and / or PR issues opinions from WTF1 might not be the best. Just make sure that the veterans can understand that there are issues behind and they've tried their best already.
There will be a lot more going on than what I could imagine, but there is clearly improvements to be made on both sides of the problem. So, if these are understatements, tell us and we will probably understand; if these are overstatements, you know what to do to win our hearts.
