In secondary school most students with #DownSyndrome are enrolled in a LifeSkills program, which means Beckett will spend a good portion of his day swimming, recycling + a bunch of other stuff he already knows how to do. 2/5 #bced
As his mum, I spend a great deal of time encouraging others to see his abilities + worth. It’s dehumanizing + exhausting. Here’s the thing, I already know his education isn’t a priority + now it appears his health + safety isn’t either. 3/5 #bced #DownSyndrome
People with #DownSyndrome are at high risk for developing severe #COVID19 symptoms + I’m scared. I don’t expect the decision-makers @VSB39 or @bcedplan to be Trisomy 21 experts but...4/5 #bced
I hope when safety protocols are discussed, the folks in charge talk with students who have #DownSyndrome , their parents + the support workers who work closely with disabled children. The #pandemic has truly revealed how little we care about our #disabled community. 5/5 #bced
