Okay, I’ve done enough research. I was going to do a series on tiktok about this but video is not my medium so I think making a Twitter thread makes more sense.
We’re going to be talking about the tiktok user @alphafamilia https://twitter.com/sjlinquist/status/1293671064120299520">https://twitter.com/sjlinquis...

The original! I saw someone duet this and pretend they were getting punched by this guy. I was oddly fascinated by the earnestness in this video and had to go deeper.
Side note: “WhAt Up DoG iM tHe AlPhA” is a user comment you’ll find on nearly every other tiktok of theirs.

This is another “alpha” video, and it sucks. Definitely the video that made me the most annoyed. It doesn’t feel fair to get into the juicy good stuff if we aren’t also touching on the morally shitty choice of making this - even if they are trolling.
Okay so what’s the deal? Why do I think they’re trolling?
The caption says it all: @ fashionnova # alphabama # Alabama # step # stepbro # stepsis
Not actually hashtagging anything cause

From the research I’ve done: they live in Toronto. They are not step siblings (though they’ve convinced 99% of their audience they are). Fashion Nova is a sponsor.
Here’s a fun “stepbrother” tiktok

I’ll talk about their acting choices in a sec, but so much of what they do is so interesting because it’s not CLEAR that they’re in on the joke. A lot of their content seems to be genuinely a couple of high school bully airheads.
But I’m convinced they 100% are in on the joke.

They know their audience. And their audience hate-follows them.
Give the people what they want and you get engagement/followers, which gets you sponsors, which gets you money.

Okay so let’s talk about their acting.
I love this video so much. The way she holds out the card twice... It’s perfect.
My read of this is that there’s NO way that this is an earnest effort/ they’re just bad actors.

Adding this one because although it’s boring and like any other tiktok they post, you can see her lean out of frame at the very end of the video because his

I’m already tired of this thread, so let’s speed it up!
This video kills me. Caption says “part 2 coming up” but of course there never was a part 2.

She also has a ton of tiktoks where she is dressed up as animals and calls it “cosplay” and the entire comment section is full of angry cosplayers. It is just genius.
I had a few other vids to share but they are set to not download SO let’s end here. The video that convinced me without a doubt that they are in on the joke. It’s silly. They are self aware. They have 366k followers.
Respect the grift.
