I am once again in Downtown Portland, for the first protest set to start at the Justice Center in quite a while. Right wing counter protesters have promised to attend.

I am noticing a lot of weird, maybe fed related changes in downtown, including this new tower atop city hall.
You know what else is weird? These IR cameras and other strange mysterious boxes attached to light poles on the way to the parks.
Porta potties are also back in the park! What a frabjous miracle.
And here we see the new Elk Statue, which has replaced the one that was removed by the city for unclear reasons after a series of fires mysteriously occurred nearby.
Graffiti on the public bathroom walls:

"Dead Feds"
"No feds, no Nazis, no Teds"
"Protest how you protest"
Jesus H., somebody got up high to do their thing.
Speeches are being delivered to a small crowd. Only a hundred or so people, tops, in both parks. The person on the megaphone started his speech by complaining about black bloc types who provoke police. Then he suggested that wearing BLM t shirts at work is a better protest.
Another speech here.
I'm being told this is a weather beacon! So that is nice. What is not nice is living under a constant state of paranoia.
Things have filled out a bit. I would estimate 200 or so people.
A few more folks out. The man on the bullhorn tells us that getting rid of police is impossible, but that maybe we can get them to be charged with the same crimes as protesters.

On a better note, the Grill Percussion Squad is back.
The crowd continues to fill up the square. There might be as many as 400 folks here now. A decent bit of noise is now going opposite to the bullhorn speeches, which seem to be continuing on into eternity.
Oh hey, the medical supplies cart has a sign I happen to really agree with.
Oh dear. The crowd has migrated to the fence around the Federal Courthouse again.
The fence around the courthouse has been heavily reinforced, as you can see here.

As I film this, a small group walks past me and a young woman squeals with glee: "Oh boy, it's just like old times!"
An indigenous fellow sings at the gates to the Federal Poison Palace.
Back around the rear of the Justice Center, we see several Police Bureau employees show up for shift change. A crowd forms to heckle them and tell them to quit their jobs.

They are unable to get in for some reason, and they flee.
The Riot Grill has acquired some very nice adornments.
Back at the Fence, the lights are off at the courthouse, never a good sign. And the murder holes are open again.
Someone has lit a pig head aflame in front of the courthouse. Seconds later, someone else drops a Trump flag on top of it.
The first fire of the night has been lit inside the justice center courtyard. An LRAD warbles in the distance, but it is completely incomprehensible.
The Wall of Moms moves into position.

One correction: what I thought was an LRAD earlier was a set of speakers from the protesters. So law enforcement, federal and local, have actually not addressed this crowd at all to my knowledge.
A stranger with a megaphone runs up and yells at a random person for reasons that are unclear, given that said person was just standing still.
Some drama and a brief shoving and punching fight off to the side, involving members of the Portland Protest Bureau.
A heavily modified leaf blower with "Point Towards Tyranny" written on the barrel. Beautiful.
People huck eggs at the spotlights and lob fireworks at the courtyard, just like old times.
