Dazai and Chuuya are /always/ making bets. So it's not strange when Dazai tells Chuuya there's nothing he could do that would surprise him anymore, and Chuuya asks him if he wants to be on it.
He teases Chuuya relentlessly about it as Chuuya tries over and over to be unpredictable.
And Chuuya is fed up with it.
"Fine! How's this for unpredictable you shit bag!" He reaches onto the nightstand and throws a small box right at Dazai's head.
Of course, Dazai catches it.

But he's not prepared when he opens it and sees an engagement ring, lined with two rows of black diamonds.
Dazai.exe stops working.
Dazai.exe stops working.
He never expected to live long enough to get married, or even for anyone to ever like him enough to marry him. So he lets Chuuya plan the whole thing. After all, he assumes Chuuya has probably been imagining his wedding day for a long time.
Chuuya only manages to drag him to one vineyard before Dazai decides he wants nothing to do with choosing a venue, or a cake, or anything else. Chuuya's taste was just a little too...
High class these days for him.
High class these days for him.
Chuuya starts a bet. He says he bets he can get Dazai to cry at the wedding.
Dazai keeps laughing it off because there is /no way/ he's going to cry.

Day of the wedding, Dazai wakes up fairly early to go for a walk and calm his anxiety. He ends up at Odasaku's grave. He wanted to tell his friend that he's getting married today, to Chuuya of all people, and tell him how much he wishes he could have come.
Except it seems like someone has already told him. The grave is littered with white lilacs, red camellias, forget me not, and rosemary. And sitting in the center of it all, is a single wedding invitation.
Dazai's eyes widen slightly when he realizes it's for his own wedding.

By the time he makes it home, Chuuya is gone and Atsushi is there waiting for him. As best man, it's his job to help get Dazai ready and to the venue on time.
The venue Dazai still doesn't know the location of.
So when he's all dressed and ready to go, he expects to end up

So when he's all dressed and ready to go, he expects to end up
at a very expensive vineyard, filled to the brim with guests and exquisite foods and desserts.
He's expecting a wedding from a dream, something Chuuya would remember as the best day of his life.

When they arrive at the venue, Dazai is speechless by what he sees.
He turns to Atsushi, confused by what he sees, but Atsushi just smiles in response, proud and excited for Dazai.
"Mr. Chuuya had me book this place for you guys...

He said the most important thing about this wedding was remembering it's not about him.
It's about you."
Dazai's chest feels tight as an unfamiliar emotion rushes through him.

It feels like love and appreciation and comfort and /more/.
And as they walk in to the cafe below the agency, Dazai spots a small alter set up against the wall, and only a handful of chairs set up in front of it.
This was nothing like he had expected from his long time lover.

This was nothing like he had expected from his long time lover.
There was nothing extravagant about it at all. He could see all the agency members, and a handful of mafia were there. The Akutagawas, Tachihara, Hirotsu... and fussing over a very /expensive/ looking bottle of champagne was Kouyou and Chuuya.
As he approaches them he notices something else. It's a single chair, seated at the bar, but the closest one to the alter.
It has a small sign that says/ Reserved/ on it, and a few flowers.
The same flowers that were placed on his friend's grave.

Something wet is on his face. He reaches up to touch it, and looks up to the ceiling to see if perhaps a pipe is leaking...
"You're crying, dumbass." Oh. Chuuya is standing in front of him, but instead of the smug smile and I-told-you-so he was expecting,

his soon to be husband just wipes the tears from his face with a gentle smile. "I don't know what happens when people die... but you know. I know you would want him here, and if spirits or whatever are real then...
He's here. He wouldn't miss it. And I made sure he knows so..."

Dazai won't cry more than a couple tears, not in front of people, but he does allow himself to wrap his arms around his lover and bury his face into his neck to hide until he regains his composure.
The wedding itself is nothing like a standard wedding. When the time comes, Kunikida calls them to the alter to wed them. They say their vows in a language they made up as kids. The vows are sappy, but no one knows what they're saying, and everyone else just looks confused.
The cafe sets out a small buffet for everyone to help themselves to, and the chairs are cleared out to make room for a very small dance floor.
By the time it's dark outside, and everyone has gone, Chuuya shoves Dazai into the seat next to the reserved one.

He pours him a familiar glass of whiskey and starts to leave to allow his /husband/ some time to catch up with his best friend.
But Dazai snatches his wrist.
"Stay."
But Dazai snatches his wrist.
"Stay."
So he does. He sits and occasionally chimes in while Dazai talks about how much he loves Chuuya, how happy he is, and how perfect the wedding was.
Neither one of them mention that Dazai lost the bet.

And while the wedding had been perfect for Dazai in every way...
Dazai makes sure the honeymoon is everything Chuuya could have ever dreamed of. It's expensive and beautiful, full of fun, surprises, wine, and love.
Just like his Chuuya.
