The fight to preserve Assamese language and culture won't be won by protests, special status, or webinars by esteemed intellectuals. Rather it would be won by economics. https://twitter.com/m2n037/status/1293749080833716228
Let's take the example of a Dhokla, sauted with the economic prowess of Gujarat and garnished with Ambani's net worth. There will probably be no major cities in India where we can't buy a Dhokla. I can get a Dhokla in Bangalore as easily as Dosa.
The pinnacle of sambar quality - Adyar Ananda Bhavan or A2B, serves both Dosa and Dhokla. Why don't they serve Til Pitha then?
The reason is that our state is not anywhere in the map of economic prowess within the country. We are effectively a poor state because of lack of industries and entrepreneurs, and of course, the attitudes and protests are not helping.
The more industries we have and the more taxes are collected, the sudden appreciation of the central government and their response to everything Assam will be overwhelming.
The time is to build leverage and the government, incompetent by design, won't do it. It is upto the population to build private businesses and support privatization so that instead of looking at the government with folded hands, they become dependent on the businesses for money.
Once the population have that leverage, see how the government will be compliant and caring for your needs. Don't complain about Fancy Bazar, build one yourself, and then another one.
Respect Bepari/Business. They are the backbone of our economy, they create the jobs, they take it upon themselves to do what the government can't do. Think how much employment a TCS or Infosys software center can generate in a city like Jorhat...
Don't let the government control everything. Zubeen Garg, as much as I love his songs, won't make any difference to Assamese economy armed with endorsement from the government. But @BFables and @Kharkhowafoods will. Support them.
The government should be limited to law & order and should stay away from businesses. That's why Bangalore Airport looks and functions better than Ghy airport, because the govt stayed away from running it through incompetent bureaucrats.
When we protest against privatization, we effectively let the bureaucrats raze another business to the ground because they have no incentive to make profits. Look at what happened to Nagaon Paper Mill.
Once we have private businesses and towns growing around them at multiple points in a state, see how the infrastructure improves automatically because the government now suddenly has an incentive. There is a reason most of the IT hubs typically have better infrastructure.
And once Assam becomes a hub of businesses, there would be promotion of Assamese culture automatically, without the 20+ crore paid to Filmfare. To attract customers and employees, businesses will take Assamese culture far and wide just like @McDonalds and @kfc does for USA
Think about an Assamese tea brand advertising the flavour and freshness of Assam tea in London, using the greenery of Kaziranga and a Mising Gumrag performance. Why do we need the government again?
