Ok at the request of @Timelords_Wife I recently went to a store in southern Ohio called Jungle Jim’s my day spent there is records herein. A thread.....I have no ide how long it will be. Bear with me.
So Jungle Jim’s is this amazing repository for world foods. They specialize in very hard to get food here in the states and things made only internationally. They work really hard to bring the world to southern Ohio
Picture, if you will, a store the size of a Walmart or a Costco or maybe even an Asda but instead of having clothes and what not in the middle it’s all food. Front to back, wall to wall, food. And what better way to usher you into this world? Why a giant talking soup can.
As pictured above they have specialized departments like beer and wine but here their departments are the sizes of most other stores. While I was browsing their German beer selection I went with a smokebeer. It was a dark, rich beer with a comfortable, heady smokiness. Amazing!
Speaking of world foods they have sections of the store dedicated to various cultures. To be fair the whole Canadian section is covered in that one picture. Some are smaller then others. The British foods section has a whole Sherwood Forest built atop it.
They have a live well, because of course they do, but being an over the top for-the-love-of-the-food kind of store they didn’t just put the fish in it. They put a whole fishing boat in it
Want candy? Boy do they have it. And what better way to show it off then with an animatronic lion that sings Elvis songs. I went with some haribo peach rings here
Pastries? Oh hell yeah. Brace yourself. I bought three of the cannolis and one of the key lime tortes.
Hot sauce? Of course they have hot sauce, AND what better way to know where you are then a vintage fire truck over the whole hot sauce aisle
I’m a bit of a root beer fan so whenever I’m at jungle Jim’s I gather a large selection of them. More in the next tweet along with reviews.
I brought home 5 root beers, The German beer, two fentimans soda. A cherry cola and a burdock and dandelion soda. That last one was a big surprise. Very light and refreshing. Of the root beers all were great but so many makers forget the spice side of sassafras and sarsaparilla
Totally forgot the hot sauce selection vid. Here you go.
Boy this thread got away from me huh? Anyway, Jungle Jim’s is awesome and I go there every few months. Let me know if you’d like to see more. Thank, everyone for your patience with this thread.
