Thread: I was thrown off a bit today. I’m looking for mentors for a couple school cybersecurity programs I’m involved with. A friend who is a new analyst asked if I thought she could offer anything & said she was trying to get to my level. It broke my heart, keep reading.

Everyone has something to offer. Don’t let the elders of this industry intimidate you. We all screwed up many many times, we stood on the shoulders of giants, we still ask google for the answer 10x a day, and despite looking that way on Twitter we definitely don’t know it all.

As someone who is new you can offer what we can’t, relating to someone just starting out in these times, a fresh perspective and someone young they can look up to. We are just older and have been through the trenches. It doesn’t mean we are any more capable to make a difference.

Please give yourselves more credit. Volunteer, teach, read and yes, mentor! You know more than you think. Be the difference.
