I think the reason Ryan's story is so hard to parse for me is that he doesn't seem to recognize that the central issue here is whether Morse was hitting on or hooking up with students at his school while he taught there. https://twitter.com/ryangrim/status/1293685834617704451
Is anyone claiming Morse has "victims" ??? He can have engaged in behavior worthy of condemnation without having coerced anyone into anything. As I understand it, it's a fairly narrow question of ethical standards around relationships in an academic setting.
also... my understanding is the answer to the implicit larger question can be "Yes that was wrong and he shouldn't have done that, and maybe voters should have it in mind, but I still think he's the best choice for congress."
Not every conversation about an allegation of sexual impropriety can be reduced to a binary "Is TK a predator?"

Sometimes you have to engage in some critical thought!
I keep seeing tweets from people acting like Alex Morse was accused of victimizing someone and that the claims against him were disproved by the Intercept article. and honestly I don't understand where either of these ideas are coming from.
maybe this is all in reference to a Twitter discourse that i missed but I've read all the news articles about this and none of them reasonably lead to the conversation that's now happening

zero people interested in the actual credible allegation of specific misconduct that Morse avoided denying, one bazillion people talking about some groupme screenshots and a creepy 22 year old no one has ever heard of.
just get a yes or no answer from morse, or get him on the record declining to answer. none of the rest of this is pertinent to the decision voters have to make (which could easily be 'He shouldn't have acted that way but if he says he won't going forward that's enough for me.')
A lot of ppl I respect arguing more or less that the academic professional standards are irrelevant here and that we should think about this as two consenting adults, period. Okay, but try to engage with the reasons that most thoughtful academics view student-fucking as unethical
Katelyn lays out the weird gaps between the Intercept piece and the Daily Collegian article very clearly here. https://twitter.com/transscribe/status/1293755023197966338?s=19
Like a dozen ppl have unfollowed me over this thread, to which i say: I've thought Laura Kipnis was wrong about student-fucking for longer than any of you have followed me, sorry I didn't make that clear earlier!
