people are acting like that piece with Morse supporters passing partial DMs to Grim is some kind of slam dunk. 1
what it shows is some out of context messages that suggest that some people in the org were talking frivolously about what seems to have been a longstanding problem.
the fact that they were talking in a not ideal way about accusations of sexual impropriety doesn't mean there were no such serious accusations. it doesn't mean that the orgs purpose was to sway the election, rather than to deal with the accusations.
the piece says the org considered various strategies on how to handle the situation, as if this is some indictment. of course you would do that.
people are acting as if Grim rushing to press with a poorly sourced piece of nothing is erased by him returning with leaked DMs from Morse campaign people who he does not name as such.
to me, Grim printing a piece that was clearly malicious, with few facts, calls the later piece into question. we are not seeing all the DMs. we are not hearing from anyone in leadership, in part becasue Grim has taken care to show them they will not be portrayed fairly.
the enthusiasm with which progressives rush to the belief that college students are using MeToo accusations to destroy an adult progressive hero is extremely disturbing.
there is no effort to identify with, or sympathize with, or put oneself in the place of a student org faced with an extremely difficult problem.
instead there are quick assumptions of bad faith, and cheers when cherry picked DMs suggest that some people said stupid shit.
I wish people would think about what they are telling young progressives, and what they are telling any progressive in a situation where they are targeted for unwanted advances of any sort.
what they are telling those people is that if you try to identify abuses, or complain, the intercept will be there to try to destroy you, and progressive leaders will cheer them on.
anyway. I don't know if more will come out about this or not. I don't think the Intercept has handled this in a fair, respectful, or careful manner, which seems like an especial failing considering that we're talking about a youth org.
