discourse the past couple of weeks have made it so apparent that the average person has NO idea how fashion design works
go on, donât be shy, you try designing and constructing a one of a kind garment and see how it goes! then we can talk about prices!

as a designer, itâs incredibly disconcerting seeing peopleâs comments on the lirika matoshi dress. if you canât afford something, you donât have to buy it. you have no idea what itâs like to be a designer getting constant comments about prices being too high, it fucking sucks
one of the biggest things people donât get is:
DEMAND
if the strawberry dress was $50, her small team would sell thousands of them. itâs not worth it. the price HAS to be higher so they can upkeep the high quality of each garment and pay living wages.

by the way that strawberry dress should cost MORE than $490 with how much work obviously goes into it, plus the brands sustainability but yâall really arenât ready for that conversation!

if i seem overly frustrated by this, itâs bc iâm also an apparel designer that is CONSTANTLY told my work is too expensive, when we literally undercharge. the most expensive thing weâve made is $120. garments from independent designers are not necessities, theyâre luxuries
