Well, the time is nigh. In a little under 2 hours, the series finale of #AgentsofSHIELD will begin. You know what that means: Predictions time!

I’m gonna do this by guessing how they’ll wrap up all of the main cast’s character arcs #AgentsofSHIELD

First up, LMD Coulson 2:
I can’t imagine he’d just wander the world once everything is settled. That seems disrespectful to original Coulson. Finally lay the character to rest

Daisy & Sousa:
They need to end up together. I could see them possibly killing off Sousa, but that would be so rude to both of their characters. Daisy has had a different man almost every season, and it would be great if the show ended with her settling down. #AgentsofSHIELD

That last part almost sounded extremely yikes but I didn’t know how else to put it. Not saying Daisy necessarily needs a man, but she & Sousa go well together, and both of their arcs would feel complete to me if they end up with each other. Alive. #AgentsofSHIELD

Mack & Yo-Yo:
Either neither one of them dies or they both die. They’re a package deal, and I can’t imagine either character’s arc ending without the other. If there’s a “__ years later” epilogue or something, I could see them having a kid maybe. #AgentsofSHIELD

#FitzSimmons:
Oh Jesus here we go. LOOK, WRITERS, these two purely fictional characters DESERVE to spend their lives together and if anything happens/has already happened to either of them I will be VERY UPSETTI. #AgentsofSHIELD

Fitz is gonna show up in this episode and save everyone’s bacon. I’m still disappointed he hasn’t appeared all season (Iain probably had scheduling conflicts ), but they promised an end to his arc. Being able to have a life with Simmons is the end he deserves. #AgentsofSHIELD

Also I’m very confident that if they haven’t already had a kid (as many people have theorized), Simmons will either be revealed to be pregnant at the end or they’ll cut forward in a “__ years later” epilogue to reveal they’re raising Deke’s mom. #AgentsofSHIELD

And now here we go with who I think is going to die. It’s the series finale, someone is bound to.

Deke:
I honestly can’t see them ending his arc any other way than having him sacrifice his life to save Fitz from something. #AgentsofSHIELD

I mean what else could they do with him? Have him live with his grandparents as they’re raising his mom? That’d be weird. Let him use his knowledge of the past and future to keep financially profiting? That’s boring. I think dying would give his character purpose #AgentsofSHIELD

And by process of elimination, you’ve probably figured out: Yes, I also think May is going to die. Frankly her character has not been very compelling to me since Coulson died. She’s either been obsessive about bringing him back or an emotionally detached empath(?) #AgentsofSHIELD

If she survives the finale but the team is disbanded, where does she have to go? What does she have to do? I think it would be best for her character if she ended up with Coulson. And I don’t mean LMD Coulson 2, I mean the real Coulson. In the afterlife. #AgentsofSHIELD

So in terms of predictions that don’t have to do with characters’ fates: Do I think they will restore the timeline?
Honestly... I can’t see how. Enoch is dead, and unless Fitz was bestowed some Chronicom magic, it seems unlikely. #AgentsofSHIELD

Would it really be so bad if they all had to continue life in the S.H.I.E.L.D.-less 1980s of the new timeline? It would be a decent answer to the question of “Why can’t any of these characters show up in future MCU movies?” #AgentsofSHIELD

Plus, even if they did return to the original timeline, keep in mind that season 6 took place a year after Infinity War. Even if the show refused to acknowledge the Snap then, they might correct that now and that would be a pretty bad world to return to. #AgentsofSHIELD

Think of the perks of them living in the new timeline. Daisy could become the new leader of Afterlife, guiding Inhumans to control their powers in a better way than her mom (with Sousa’s support, of course ). #AgentsofSHIELD

Most of their parents or past selves (besides Mack) are dead because all the S.H.I.E.L.D. bases went boom so they wouldn’t be at major risk of running into their counterparts. Also a new timeline leaves any of them open to getting a Dis+ spin-off show. (Quake? ) #AgentsofSHIELD

Okay that’s all from me. The finale begins in an hour. God DAMN I’m excited but also really emotional and also very nervous for #FitzSimmons but it is how it is so LET’S GO!!! #AgentsofSHIELD

I take back everything I said. This is a great way to conclude Deke’s arc. #AgentsofSHIELD

Deke as the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the new timeline is... strangely something I want to see more of? He’s absolutely going to screw up the whole organization but it would be hilarious. #AgentsofSHIELD

We haven’t gotten a legitimate #FitzSimmons moment in so long, this is lovely. #AgentsofSHIELD

BUT DID THEY HAVE A KID OR NOT??? #AgentsofSHIELD

Oh god we don’t have to relive the season 6 climax do we? #AgentsofSHIELD

Honestly this season (7) was so surreal. We knew absolutely nothing about what was going on until literally this last episode, but they made it work so well in spite of that by making it a celebration of the series with time travel shenanigans. #AgentsofSHIELD

Imma be completely honest I forgot that Flint was still in the original timeline. Wasn’t he created by the fear machine or whatever? Either way, that changes my Mack & Yo-Yo prediction. They might just raise him. We’ll see. #AgentsofSHIELD

I have many thoughts about this finale and this amazing show. It’s been around for 7/20ths of my life. Through the good, through the bad, it was always a constant. Giving us so many stories to complement the movies as well as it’s own great stories and characters. #AgentsofSHIELD

Honestly it’s not going to be the same without this show coming back around in a year for another season, but I couldn’t have asked for a better ending for these characters I’ve grown to love. All of them. And the reunion at the bar... Amazing. #AgentsofSHIELD

ALL THAT BEING SAID, I have thoughts I need to share about each character’s arc and the season as a whole as it compares to other seasons. So let’s go. I’ll go in the same order I made predictions. #AgentsofSHIELD

LMD Coulson 2:
The idea of him traveling the world just to see it all is sweet. But I still can’t get over what I couldn’t get over all season: He’s not Coulson. The new memories he’s creating aren’t Coulson’s, and frankly that makes his ending feel a little empty #AgentsofSHIELD

I like that he shares Coulson’s memories with new S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits. But when he mentioned he considered turning himself off, I feel like he should. The man died in the season 5 finale. Let him die to everyone else. They don’t need to hold on to a replacement. #AgentsofSHIELD

I’m sure this is a hot take, but it’s like he said himself earlier in the episode: He’s just tech. Tech with memories of a dead man.
That being said, they couldn’t have chosen a better shot to end the series on than Coulson flying away in Lola. #AgentsofSHIELD

Daisy & Sousa:
THEY GOT THE ENDING I WANTED AND THEY BOTH DESERVE!!! And Kora is traveling space with them and gets to connect with her sister it’s so great. #AgentsofSHIELD

Mack & Yo-Yo:
So Mack just continues to be Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Yo-Yo just continues to be an agent. That’s... kinda boring. It’s not even super clear if they’re still romantically involved. But hey at least Flint gets to attend S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy. #AgentsofSHIELD

#FitzSimmons:
MY BABIES HAD A BABY AND LIVED A LIFE TOGETHER AND GOT TO CONTINUE LIVING THEIR LIVES TOGETHER I’M SO DAMN HAPPY THIS CURSED COUPLE FINALLY GETS TO STAY TOGETHER AFTER SEVEN. DAMN. SEASONS!!! #AgentsofSHIELD

The shot of them with Alya in the park gave me so many Fringe series finale vibes with Olivia, Peter, & Etta. Honestly I need to seriously consider if #AgentsofSHIELD is my new favorite show over #Fringe. #FitzSimmons

Deke:
Well he didn’t die but he stayed in the new timeline. You know what? That suffices. He gets to live out his dreams and know that Nana and Bobo will eventually see him again when he’s born. I love that. Shame he never got to meet his mom. #AgentsofSHIELD

I stand by my statement that I want to see more of the timeline where he’s Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and also a rock star with the Deke Squad. Even if the initial Deke Squad episode was horrible lol. #AgentsofSHIELD

And finally, May:
She becomes a teacher at S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy... I feel like that had no buildup? So is she just gonna keep her empathic powers until she dies? What does she teach? How does she eventually die? I frankly don’t like her ending at all. #AgentsofSHIELD

And I feel like there was no Philinda closure. Like I’m glad they didn’t try to push her and LMD Coulson 2 because not Coulson, but there was never really a single moment of her coming to terms with Coulson’s death. Everyone’s just treating LC2 like the real deal. #AgentsofSHIELD

So now that individual characters are out of the way, how do I feel about how they handled restoring the timeline? Well I like that they incorporated the Quantum Realm, giving an Avengers: Endgame connection even if they still never acknowledged the Snap. #AgentsofSHIELD

It’s just... kind of weird. Like, Enoch and Fitz said it would be their final mission together, but it seems like the only reason that is is because Deke stayed behind. No one else died, and other than FitzSimmons they all stayed members of S.H.I.E.L.D. it seems. #AgentsofSHIELD

Sure, they all go their separate ways, but why? Why couldn’t some of these characters remain on the same team? I’m certainly not saying they needed to do another season, but the way they ended it made it seem like it was an open possibility. #AgentsofSHIELD

Regardless, despite my complaints, it was an excellent ending to tie up a great show. If they ever do a reunion years down the line, doing it by showing their yearly holographic meeting in the bar would be so wholesome. #AgentsofSHIELD

Season 7 was incredible. Even if the premise was unclear, confusing as all hell, and had barely any Fitz, it was an excellent celebration of the series and television tropes in general and possibly the best way to do a final season of any show. #AgentsofSHIELD

Time travel is still convoluted bs but they couldn’t have done it better to show and reference so many characters, locations, ideas, and themes from seasons 1-6. An excellent job all around. So how does it compare to other seasons, in my opinion? #AgentsofSHIELD

My FINAL* season ranking:

1 > 4 > 7 > 3 > 2 > 5 > 6

*Honestly the more I think about it, I might be willing to swap seasons 1 and 4. I’d have to rewatch the whole series to know for sure what I think. And boy I would LOVE to rewatch it all start-to-finish. #AgentsofSHIELD

Keep in mind with that ranking that seasons 5 and 6 are the only ones I think are straight-up bad. And honestly I don’t remember my opinions about seasons 2 and 3 super clearly, even though I’ve seen them more than once. What streaming service has this whole show? #AgentsofSHIELD

Anyways, I should put this thread to rest. (Like the show never did for Coulson hahaHAha. )

What an excellent ride these past 7 years have been. I would adore a spinoff show about any of these characters, but at the same time, I love where it left each of them. #AgentsofSHIELD
