Why thirst tweets are completely normal and why ot5s/larries should stop policing what harries post; an enlightening thread
First let’s understand what thirst tweeting is. Thirst tweeting is apart of stan culture on the internet in which people will express their sexual desires about different celebrities. Thirst tweeting has been around for as long as stan culture has been around.
There are even series on buzzfeed which depict celebrities reading thirst tweets about themselves, showing that this is a normal part of stan culture.
Thirst tweeting is not something that is unique to harrie twitter alone. There are thirst tweets on every social media platform about most celebrities. Here is a couple examples of thirst tweets from the bts fandom. (names are censored)
Thirst tweeting is apart of every fandom, yet, harrie twitter is the only fandom that has ppl (ot5s/larries) policing our every tweet in which we express sexual desire towards harry.
The notion that women cannot openly express their sexual desires is rooted in misogyny as men express their sexual desires all the time no problem but once women are the ones being sexual it is shamed and ridiculed. Contributing to the idea that women do not have a sexual nature.
Now let’s get to ot5s/louies claim that harry is uncomfortable with these type of tweets. This claim is simply not true and is a narrative that has been manipulated by ot5/larries in order to shame us. I am going to prove exactly how harry would feel about these tweets.
First let’s dissect the #1 thing that ot5/larries love to bring up when discussing us “sexualising”. This quote from hsd (attached). Listen closely when I say this: THIS QUOTE IS FAKE. THE ACCOUNT IS FAKE ITS NOT THE REAL HSD. THESE WORDS NEVER LEFT HARRYS MOUTH.
You guys have used something that YOU created to shame us when in reality harry has never said that. Harry isn’t on social media because it is better for his mental health. Not once has he ever said it is because of us expressing our sexual desires. Stop using this narrative.
The second way ot5s/larries will shame us is by misquoting the infamous Zane Lowe interview. So let me clarify EXACTLY what harry said in this interview and why it has nothing to do with us viewing him sexually. I am going to quote the interview here word for word then dissect it
Zane Lowe asks harry how he feels that ppl are “FOCUSED ON” him as sex symbol. Harry responds “i try to think of it as little as possible” “it is a weird thing to think of about yourself” “sex used to feel so much more taboo” “with this record I wanted to feel a lot freer”
That is exactly what harry said word for word in response to him being viewed a a sex symbol. Read the definition of a sex symbol below. Zane Lowe asked harry how he feels when ppl FOCUS ON him as a sex symbol SOLELY. That is much different from ppl occasionally expressing desire
Being viewed as a sex symbol does not equal to being sexualised in any way. Y’all have taken him saying the sex symbol status is uncomfortable for him and twisted it to mean he is uncomfortable with ppl “sexualising” aka expressing their sexual desire.
We do not objectify harry solely down to his value as a sexual being. We focus on his music and his personality etc while also acknowledging his beauty and expressing our sexual desires towards him. We are not FOCUSING ON his sex symbol status and we do not encourage that status
Our desire for him has less to do with HIM as a sexual being and more to do with US having sexual desire. Furthermore harrys only comment is that he doesn’t like to think of HIMSELF that way. Bc ofc it is weird (and slightly narcissistic) for someone to think +
of themselves as this super sexy, desirable person that everyone wants. Then harry goes on to say that he used to find sex very taboo but that now he wants to be more open and free with sex which proves that he would have no problem with young women being free and open+
with their sexual desires. Which is exactly what we are doing. Furthermore there is the example of harry “sexualising” George Harrison by wearing a shirt that says he wants to suck George Harrison’s dick. A common comment by ot5/larries is that we shouldn’t+
put our sexual desires out on the internet bc it is weird to do that publicly. But, harry wore a shirt with his sexual desires out in the open for anyone to see and even took a picture with it. Therefore, there is no issue there with us being publicly sexual
Lastly let’s talk about harrys SNL skit. Yes I recognize that SNL is not real and it is a comedy sketch. However let’s understand the context of this particular skit that harry did. This skit focused on a man using a company sm account to post thirst comments.
This skit was described by many news articles as one of the most graphic sketches in snl and it was snl pushing the boundaries. Here are some headlines that came out after this sketch and some articles. Harry CHOSE to do this particular sketch
Here is the sketch if you haven’t watched it: https://twitter.com/7osharry/status/1219739489721032709
The comments were extremely graphic and similar (if not worst) to comments that we would typically make online. Many celebrities were asked to do this skit before harry and all of them turned it down for being too explicit. Harry however could not stop laughing once he read it
This shows that harry has no problem with thirst tweets and that he in fact find them funny. So I’ve proven that he never said anything about sexualising making him uncomfortable, he sexualised someone else and he finds thirst tweets funny. So I leave you with this question:
When you come under our tweets harassing us and policing what we post all in the name of “defending harry” who are you actually defending? Bc it seems to me that harry has no problem with the things we do online you are just harassing us for no reason. It’s time for this to stop.
