Damn. @NZGreens will be losing my vote if they continue with this straw ban rubbish.

I have voted Green every election, supported campaigns & consider many Greens my friends.

But this is #EcoAbleism and directly undermines disability rights & the dignity of disabled people.
Also don’t @ me if you want to debate the validity of straw bans. The long and short of it is there are many ways to reduce the impact of plastic on our taiao which don’t start with disabled people losing rights and dignity. There are many ways to reduce straws without
making it hard for disabled people to access water and nutrition, or requiring disabled people to go through extra steps to get access to something they need to survive. And the information about this is SO easily available. Alice Wong and many other disabled leaders have
Provided extensive analysis on why this is actually a problem, with the experience of it happening overseas. And don’t even get started with disabled people don’t care about the enviro, when disabled people contribute the least to our global enviro problems & climate change.
The fact that this has even been put forward despite the massive rejections from disabled communities around the world to similar policies is incredibly disappointing, and people supporting it need to do better to listen to our community and not shit on our rights. Fin.
