coming back to texas i have made MANY observations re: cultural and lifestyle differences. i shall make a thread of them here. the first is... too many damn pickup trucks!!
in texas you are obligated to shower at least once a day (i often shower twice) because of how freaking sweaty and hot it is. in san diego you can (theoretically) get away without showering for like 4 days (theoretically)
recycling is not super accessible in more rural parts of texas (which is most of it) so that's just not a priority. no plastic bag ban so everyone still just uses assloads of plastic bags
healthy food stores are not all that accessible like trader joes/sprouts/more natural grocers so people can't really base their lives around healthier choices whereas in california, outside exercise is possible and pleasant, healthy options are abundant, and its trendy to be fit
gas is literally a DOLLAR here so it makes sense that you wouldn't really care about carpooling/saving gas. also texas is so big and spread out that a 40 mile drive seems like pretty common to get somewhere
wealth can't be spent on things like outdoor experiences or living by the beach so its spent on things like private school education and materialistic goods like clothes shoes etc
i think the weather influences so many more things than we realize like i always thought about not washing my hair every day in CA to conserve water but here it's nearly impossible bc you get so sweaty so thinking about reducing your footprint here is much more difficult
in the same way that no one really uses air conditioning in california, ac is always on in texas bc you couldn't survive without it. again difficult to reduce carbon footprint
then bc you shower much more often you have to wash your clothes more often!!! everything has an effect ah it pains me
