As a police officer and someone who is classed as BME/POC/Mixed Race etc, I have NEVER been subject to or overheard racism from a fellow officer but I have been subject to racially aggravated verbal and physical assaults off duty and on duty from members of the public. 1/4
Many of the members of public that did so belonged to one or more of the races I have in me and that I am proud of. @DawnButlerBrent and others assumptions that every interaction with a POC is due to officers being racist furthers the gap between BME people and the police 2/4
This narrative only encourages comments to BME officers like "You're a disgrace to your race" or "How can you wear that uniform you coconut". Politicans need to stop creating racial tensions to score political points and they need to serve the people without an agenda 3/4
As a mixed race officer who can appear as nearly every race (depending on the day) I encourage everyone to join the police if they want to fight crime in any capacity. Do not be swayed by those seeking to create distrust between the police and the public and find out yourself 4/4
