OK so whomst among you watched late 80s early 90s sitcoms & didn't know that FAMILY MATTERS was spun off of PERFECT STRANGERS because I would like to start a club of having learned this information on August 12, 2020
IT TURNS OUT that Harriette Winslow (Jo Marie Payton) was a character in PERFECT STRANGERS first! I watched both shows (as a small child) & had absolutely no idea they were connected in this way--my parents loved PS, my sister & I loved FM, this is absolutely incredible to me.
I learned this today while explaining to Stu that as a kid the sitcoms I loved best were the ones about Black families because they felt more like my family; Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Sister Sister were what my sister & I watched together.
(I couldn't have explained this as a kid, I think; I just loved those shows better, identified with characters in them, much more than Blossom or Full House, about which I remember basically nothing now. Blossom wore a hat at some point? That was a thing?)
Anyway I have no overarching point to make here, memory's weird & TV is maybe even weirder, that's all
