Musicals are the most important genre of film

A THREAD
Before I dive into why musicals are the most important genre of film, I must talk about how films originally were casted
Back when films were new back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, many theatre actors such as Charlie Chaplin took this opportunity to transition to the big screen
And not only actors, but also crew such as DW Griffith and Sergei Eisenstein. You see many theatre actors get on the big screen today and vice versa
In the beginning of film even before they had scores in the film, they used live orchestras to play simultaneously with the films
Then the score started being apart of the film instead of separately. Then there were also “subtitles” (I forgot the name but they had captions)
After years of trying to get sound on film despite some people saying it won’t stick (can you believe people were against sound on film), in 1927, The Jazz Singer was made forever changing film as we know it
Now, the Jazz singer is an incredibly racist film and I’m not applauding it in anyway. However, it was still impactful
Lmaooo I don’t feel like finishing this thread but just know musicals are the most important genre
