I can easily see how people reduce their political involvement to “showing up to the polls”. It does not take constant discipline or effort.
People vote, feel they’ve “done enough” and then watch the news. And anyone who doesn’t share that same limited engagement is “part of the problem” in their minds.
Never mind the people who organize and try to lend mutual aid in place of the programs never brought to fruition by electoral politics or the politicians they support.
If they can show up to vote, that is all the politics they have inside them. Because let’s face it, this is not their life. This is a popularity contest for many.
They don’t have to read, learn new information, incorporate strategies into their daily life. The election is in November, and the most they’ve done all year is vote in a primary.
For the last nearly 4 years they fear mongered every single day leading to this point. And here we are being told again “anything is better than Trump”. Like this wasn’t a slaveholding entity before and isn’t currently using incarcerated people for slave labor.
If you continue to avoid what led us to this position, you allow it to become common. If you will not act against the empire, it will continue to destroy millions of lives. That’s how imperialism works.
But know as you comfortably accept the least strenuous or meaningful form of political involvement, WE HAVE ELDERLY AND YOUNG POLITICAL PRISONERS IN AMERICA. They were put there by a system that isn’t going to be voted out.
