The UK's coronavirus daily death count is being revised downwards.

The total is down by just over 10%, but the most recent figures by more than half.
The daily figures count the number of people who died after a positive coronavirus test.

In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, only deaths within 28 days of the test are included. Until today there was no cutoff in England.
Neither is perfect - a death on day 29 in intensive care gets excluded by the new figures for England, but the old figures could include people who recovered in March and died in July in a car crash.
Death certificates - excess deaths or coronavirus mentions - give the best sense of the death toll.
The daily figures should give a better sense of the trends. And the trend with the new figures is falling by about 25% every week. With the old figures it was falling by about 18% a week. https://twitter.com/BristOliver/status/1293615099303919616?s=20
