It's sad to see that so many people value watching or attending sporting events more than saving lives. Trust me. I understand the importance of sports. Two of my best friends and I have a platform that is dedicated solely to sports, because of our love for it.
However, there are some things that are more important than entertainment. Saving lives is one of them. If I could trade being able to watch the NFL, NBA, NCAAF, etc. seasons for the opportunity to have my mom back, I would without thinking twice.
If I had to give up sports to prevent someone from experiencing what my family has had to experience these past four months, I would. If only we had more people in this country who could empathize, or even sympathize with others, we would likely be in a much better situation.
It's tough to see Covid politicized, and its impact minimized by so many people. Every day I'm faced with the harsh reality that I watched my mom get rolled into an ambulance, and the next time that I was able to see her was at a funeral home.
Too many people have reduced the impact of Covid to just numbers, and don't really focus on the lives that have been changed forever. On this side of it, I have to think about numbers that most of the general public doesn't.
Here are a few numbers for you. My mom left behind ONE husband of 38 years and FOUR children who are experiencing the greatest amount of pain that we've ever experienced in our lives. A perpetual pain that often times feels overwhelming.
My mom left behind SEVEN grandchildren under the age of 12 who are hurting each day, because they never got to say "goodbye" to their Grandmommy.
Still need more numbers? How about ZERO? The number of my children who will ever be afforded the opportunity to meet their paternal grandmother.
I could go on, but I'll stop there. Sometimes people get caught up in the media circus, and forget the lives that Covid has and is still impacting. So, ask yourself, "Are sports more important than saving lives?" I hope it didn't take you too long to think of the right answer.
