who wants to read my ultimate headcanon of Owen's backstory and wait to see if i'm right or not
ignoring lots of things i am not sure about. let's go
things i am not sure about

* did owen know he was a wizard? (kizu-owen doesn't seem to know, main story ch. 19)
* has owen been able to come back to life since he was a child?
* what age was he trapped in the basement at?
* is his condition a natural mutation or did he develop +
+ it artificially? was it since birth or did he change his source of magical powers?
* is talking to animals magic or does owen have a unique ability? (he doesn't know this himself. from his character sub stories)
things i will ignore

* place where owen was born (good for you. was about to rant about western wizard owen)
* ages since we don't have a clear timeline. i hope owen gets reminded of things soon
* soul issue since i don't really know about its nature
parting from the way owen acts.

- his mindset is the one of a child's. he doesn't seem to have "grown up" since before being trapped. we'll assume he was trapped at a young age
- heavily dislikes orders and requests, or being expected to do smth + being complimented by his looks
from this i assume owen was raised by a strict or/and abusive family or whoever was in charge of him. he probably was separated from his parents for some obscure reason. probably because he was a wizard *
* he could have still lived with his parents though, who knows.

i have two theories about this, both are hardcore though
✨ NOBLE OWEN

if he came from a noble family (very likely, i made another thread about this bc of his mannerisms, his room, the way he acts, the way he talks and his knowledge on things like war and probably music) we all know owen probably isn't from the north. would be fair +
+ since everyone from the north is from the north and even more people are from the north — meanwhile, western wizards all seem to be pure blood 🙂
we all know how badly wizards were taken back then. if Owen's family was renamed owen probably had to obey very strict rules and orders, probably also hide the fact that he was a wizard, or he could not have been told he was one to begin with
another reason why i think owen could have been raised in such an environment is how he treats heathcliff at the beginning of his affection story. he seems to remark the fact that he is a noble and asks him if he thinks his parents are glad of having a son like him. we all know +
+ Owen's favorite unhealthy coping mechanism is obsessive projection
i recommend you to read the family character sub story for owen https://schoenheit.dreamwidth.org/6062.html#four
the way he avoids the conversation is a bit not like "i don't remember" but like "i don't want to tell you" or "i don't want to remember"
in any case, his family could've been caught. right how owen caught cain.
they could've been exposed, his family, if human, could've been imprisoned or separated from his child (like citizens from Mesa in central prelude did)
it was a usual practice to k/ll wizards for mana stone, or maybe because they were afraid of wizards. but they probably encountered with the inconvenience of owen not dying, no matter how many times they broke his whole body
since he couldn't pass away, they probably forcefully put him inside the basement to seal him and avoid wizards damaging the village or the city. we all know owen was later turned into a urban legend to keep humans afraid of wizards (sounds very figaro-esque huh)
because owen probably was told during his noble days that he was beautiful, that he had a bright future in front of him, a "happy ending" and everything was ruined: his family, his memory, his dignity and his dreams, because he was a wizard. because he was a wizard he was ugly, +
+ a monster, and deserved to d/e, to be kept inside a basement until the day he died, if that was even possible. but all owen got was consecutive deaths at the hands of starvation and misery for 100 years, where the sunlight didn't reach, alone, only a book and a couple of mice.
seeing cain being just like him covered by the only thing that gave him hope back then probably was the reason why owen took it against him. because it wasn't fair that someone else could live while he had to go through all that. that's why he says he wants to show him the +
+ worst from the world
this is why owen became his own knight — he saved himself. but because he saved himself, he became the bad guy in other people's eyes. and it was fine for him — nice or mean, to humans' eyes, wizards are all the same (chapter 16, main story)
whenever kizu-owen says he was a good boy something inside me breaks because he probably was just so fucking abused and manipulated etc by whoever it was, he was so immersed in the idea of "good things will happen if i'm good"
/side note but i like the headcanon of owen not being able to fabricate sugar because the source of his powers is mainly negative, therefore his sugar would probably not even be sweet... despite him loving sweets
(north etude)

the ideas of owen of not being satisfied because someone didn't get enough punishment, being held back by wizards who are more powerful, this smells like shit man !
(main story, chapter 19)
the way he says the last thing is... something (i'll record that part only for you to listen)
this is the way he says "screaming, blood and fear"
✨ THE OTHER THEORY

nothing. he simply probably had an outburst of anger and probably k/lled someone accidentally from being treated badly and outed himself as a wizard. probably, instead of taking him forcefully to the basement they tried to persuade him, gave him the book, +
+ and told him he had to wait until they came back to pick him up

i don't think this is the case. he was probably brutally forced since kizu-owen is obsessed with kishi-sama saving him. from what? "knights protect people in need from the bad guys" which bad guys?
about his two spells

* cur memini was probably his original spell since the meaning adapts better. if owen developed the "can't die" skill later then "quare morito" has no sense being made a spell if he was mortal back then.
* quare morito therefore would be the latter spell.
do i believe these were Owen's original spells?

not at all. he probably had a different spell, a different mana area and a different amulet.
✨ about his mana area
owen's mana area is a marketplace. however, he is reluctant to telling akira which one specifically is. once again, owen seems to fear war and destruction of his mana area... ( ! )
(owen's initial ssr card story - https://schoenheit.dreamwidth.org/2544.html )

kizu-owen, who seems to remember about owen's past, has NEVER been in an outdoor market, owen's mana area, and is taken aback by the number of people around them.
conclusion: Owen's mana area was either destroyed (most likely), he forgot what it was, or he decided to change it
since amulets are related to mana areas, it must be the same case as his mana area.

also i forgot to say it but i think faust mentions it's usually a place linked to their childhood (like cain's being the river or arthur's)
(record scratch) owen,
i could keep writing about him and about how many things we don't know (cerberus?... where's his soul? what is his magical object, his trunk? what does he mean with "hell" is in there?) but i want to patiently wait for everything to be translated so i can offer proof 🤔
as my mutuals pointed out, owen is also a name full of meaning, i suggest you search for it!! there's nothing else i can tell you without breaking this thread in 30 different threads of possibilities but
tldr; owen has never felt free and probably never will. because of family, rules, orders and his own shell personality developed from pain, which is also his source of power
he might have lived in the forest but he's nothing close to the typical person who lives in the forest. he dresses elegantly, decorates all he says as a poem when he feels like it, he has culture and knows a lot about tales and legends, and is able to question any morals
someone isolated as someone living in the forest would be wouldn't act like owen, who dances gracefully, keeps his room as the interior of a hotel, loves soft sofas and chairs and has a ton of pillows on his bed, enjoys having tea and sweets, and is a natural perfectionist to a +
+ point. owen's upbringing couldn't have been an ordinary one
THIS ENDED UP BEING AN INFODUMP BUT I HOPE Y'ALL UNDERSTOOD WHERE THE DIRECTION OF MY THOUGHTS IS GOING!!! if it turns out to be anything close to this i. i will.

excuse me
